Quick check in please.
What part of the country are you in, where do you get resin?
How much are you paying for 1 gal.? , 5 gal.?
There may be a way to smooth this out some.

I'm in Halifax, NS, and the only resin I can find is at Canadian tire and it's friggin expensive.

17 bucks for 32 fl oz...

I can make about 8-10ish TB's with that.

Mad

I know.

Do you have there diferent tips of resin (polyester)? We have here diferent colours, smels, hardness... Of course more clear is the resin end less smely more expensive is it. For an example: dirty green colour and a litle bit smely resin you get for cca. 11$/galon; water clear and much less smely resign you get for cca. 22$/galon.
Is it important colour and smelynes of resin?

this is new to me also. As I understand it, there are 2 main types of resin. Polyester resin which is clear, less smelly and shrinks a little. epoxy resin, which is various tints, very smelly, and doesn't shrink (not sure if it has absolutely no shrinkage, but not like the polyester.) So the polyester clear one is easier to get out of rigid moulds and would contract around the crystals more, creating a piezoelectric effect.

I just made my second piece, and used epoxy and polyester resins for it. I used the epoxy to make sheets of resin and shredded aluminium mixed together (with a little coloured pigments for decoration) , and then cut the sheets up into small pieces while they were still a little soft and flexible. (I made the sheets on a cooking tray covered in aluminium foil and brushed with release agent. Then filled a mould with the pieces and added cut up steel scrubbies (the things used for scrubbing cooking pans). It saved on the volume of polyester resin I needed, while still having the shrinkage, which I wanted. Other things I put in were BB gun pellets and crystals.

Denatured ethanol release agent worked well, which I brushed onto the inside of the mould. The mould was a plastic funnel from the kitchen isle at the local superstore (with the end blocked off by a bit of clay). It made a nice cone shape.

Sorry for going off topic a bit, lol.
